About

Last updated: 21 October 2026

Zachary Chaves is the principal of AV Coding LLC, an independent programming firm based in Ridgefield, Connecticut, serving the Tri-State Area and remote clients farther afield. The day-to-day work is Crestron control programming, multi-platform AV design, audits, and legacy rescue for integrators, architects, and direct clients who need rooms that stay fixed.

Engagements are hands-on: scope is written before code starts, uncompiled source is delivered to the client of record, and integrator relationships stay with the integrator. That combination—Gold Masters competency without a dealer agreement—is the reason many clients hire AV Coding instead of a manufacturer-tied shop.

How the work is done

Most calls start the same way: a room (or a floor of rooms) that never quite behaved, a previous programmer who left compiled code, or a specification that needs to be bid without a preferred dealer attached. Zachary still opens the project files, traces the signal path, and writes the control logic himself. That is intentional. The firm stays small so the person who scopes the work is the person who ships the source.

Typical delivery includes SIMPL / SIMPL# Pro or platform-native code for the installed control system, touchscreen layouts the operators can actually use, and written notes an integrator or facilities team can hand to the next technician. When the job is remediation, the first artifact is an audit—not a patch—so the client can see what is wrong before authorizing rebuild work.

Public stories without client secrets live on the work page (library expansion across nearly 20 rooms, hotel floor rollout with offline detection, residential plate recognition that ran a year without a service call). Client notes from MIT Sloan and the CERN AMS collaboration are quoted there as well.

Credentials

  • Crestron Certified Master Programmer, Gold. About 360 programmers hold Gold worldwide (est. 2026; Crestron does not publish an official census—see the FAQ for how that figure is sourced).
  • Crestron Service Provider (CSP), dealer-independent. No dealer agreement and no manufacturer incentive.
  • AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist, Design (CTS-D).
  • NICET Systems Software Integrator (SSI).
  • Biamp programming, Q-SYS Designer, and Extron control, used where the room calls for them.

CTS-D and NICET live here so the homepage can lead with Gold, CSP, and location. The certification ladder itself is explained on the FAQ.

How an engagement runs

  • You pick a time. AV Coding calls before the meeting so the conversation starts from your situation.
  • Scope, platforms, and deliverables are written down before programming begins.
  • Full uncompiled source goes to the client of record, with a perpetual, transferable licence.
  • Integrator work stays with the integrator. AV Coding does not contact that client directly.

Website expectations, credential verification, and no-warranty limits are in the terms of use. Accessibility notes, including the Calendly popup limitation, are on the accessibility page.

Selected rooms

The work page has three project stories, plus two notes from the clients’ own words: rooms at MIT Sloan, and a conference room for the CERN AMS collaboration. Programming services and platforms are listed on services.
